Zoho Creator as Middleware

So..., Credible Systems have been using the Zoho suite of tools now for about 2 and a half years. In that time we've seen a huge amount of improvement. Each app has grown in ability, with new features and usability improvements coming at regular intervals. Functionality is richer, deeper. Additionally the good people at Zoho have been digging tunnels sideways to connect many more applications, both with each other and with the ever present Google Apps.

This inter-connectedness, this integration has been beneficial for our customers and ourselves. Several of our internal applications now use data that is consumed by up to 3 Zoho services.

Why is this important?  Consider...

  • The most common data held by a business relates to its customers (e.g. CRM)
  • CRM data is (should be) clean, validated and regularly updated.
  • Organisations perform various tasks and actions outside of CRM every day.
  • Many of these are suitable for moving to Zoho Creator (simple yet unique)
  • Each of these activities could benefit hugely from being related to CRM data.

Add value to existing business activities

The two main benefits of this are:

  1. Having key business tasks data available in CRM / Reports adds value for CRM users and business analysts alike.
  2. Having Zoho CRM data related to business tasks in Creator ensures data integrity, readability, and reliability.
I guess this is considering using Zoho Creator as midde-ware for two equally powerful business solutions that just happen to complement each other. It makes sense to me, especially as if you have a Zoho CRM account you already have access to Zoho Creator and Reports (you knew that right?).

Sure, this can be achieved using traditional programming methods, and why not? Provided you are willing to pay more, wait longer for it to be developed and support/manage the platform it runs on as well....yes, why not. :-)

Interested in your thoughts as always..

Mark

  1. So Zoho creator is acting as a service (or data?) consumer from Zoho CRM (and or what else) and pumping this forward to Zoho Reports?

What are these 'apps' floating on the top. Are these the drag and drop thingies?

I have to say that it 'sounds' just amazing, but I cannot quite 'see' it. How, should I wish to use this, convert the sounds into pictures? What does a full Zoho business process flow application look like?

You see - I completely buy into the idea what Zoho can do amazing things for a very small foot print. Nevertheless, the Zoho website and posts like this remind me of what people say about Access. Now Access blows chunks! I have made a good living out of replacing Access b0110c5 with scripts and Excel.

So - how is this different! Sell it to me m8 ;)

  2. Hi mate,

Well the most records I have ever imported at once is about 45k, but the subscription models allow for very large numbers indeed in Zoho Reports (https://www.zoho.com/reports/zohoreports-pricing.html)

In my work I have used Creator to add value to existing Zoho CRM data. e.g. Apps for business tasks that are not suitable for CRM workflow, but benefit from being related to validated CRM data such as accounts/invoices etc

I connect to CRM or Reports via API or a ZC Deluge script command. Most data manipulation is done in ZC as its supports a reasonably powerful scripting language called Deluge that runs on Form Load, field edit, validate, submit etc. ( http://help.creator.zoho.com/Deluge-Reference---Overview.html )

Of course ZC Deluge script supports POST/GET urls for XML/JSON so it can connect to plenty of other apps out there...

I think so long as it continues to develop as it has done it will have a market for Small/Medium business for years to come - but they will have to keep developing it.
